Friday 10th November saw the Academy host its annual Remembrance Service, to honour the fallen in all conflicts, in all times, and also the members of the Middleton Old Elizabethans’ Association.
The service also marked the passing away earlier in the year of Colonel D.E Gibbs CBE, TD, JP, DL. Colonel Gibbs had been the guest of honour at many previous services, in representing the Association. His life, military service and many important contributions to the community were celebrated in the address given by Sgt John Beeston, who will step into the role of Chair of the Association. In his address, Sgt Beeston gave a precis of his history: family background, military service and later professional life.
The Academy’s Year 7 students were impeccable in their conduct and contributions. Similarly, our recently appointed Form Captains worked as ambassadors to our guests, and were outstanding throughout. Year 9 student Abbie Packer was once again excellent in playing ‘The Last Post’ and ‘The Reveille’ on the cornet, alongside Mr Beale. Special mention must go to our two Year 7 students: Abigail Cooney and Ghufran Akbar, who read the Roll of Honour with care, respect and skill.
