What is CEIAG?
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance refers to a coherent programme of activities that inform, inspire and motivate young people, preparing them for work and helping them to understand where different education and training choices could take them in the future (DfE statutory guidance 2014).
The Education Act 2011 places a statutory duty on schools and requires Governing Boards to ensure that all registered students at the Academy are provided with independent careers guidance from Year 8 to Year 13 so they are inspired and motivated to fulfil their potential. The Governing Board must ensure that the independent careers guidance provided:
- Should be presented in an independent and impartial manner
- Should include information on the range of education or training options, including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways
- Should promote the best interests of the students to whom it is given
- Should help every student develop high aspirations and consider a broad and ambitious range of careers.
What is RPA?
Raising the participation age
The government has increased the age to which all young people in England are required to continue in education or training. Pupils who leave year 11 have to continue until at least their 18th birthday.
Young people will able to choose from:
- full-time education (e.g. at a school or college)
- an apprenticeship or traineeship
- part-time education or training combined with one of the following:
- employment or self-employment for 20 hours or more a week
- volunteering for 20 hours or more a week

Inspiring IAG award
We have achieved Stage Two of the Inspiring IAG Award. This has been designed to provide a good practice framework and recognition of high quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) for organisations providing support services for young people.
Six key themes are explored during each stage of the award, each underpinned by the principles of equality and diversity and raising aspirations. These include Management and Leadership, Design and Delivery of CEIAG, Working with Partners, Information and Communication, Outcomes for Young People, Involving Parents and Carers.
